Birding At Ranthambore: Colourful And Exotic Birds To Be Spot In Ranthambore Forest


Where Ranthambore National Park is widely famous for its thrilling tiger safaris and experiences, there, on the other side, its forest area is also a home to exotic bird species. Its dry and deciduous forests region is rich in avifauna due to the large variety of habitats with abundant sources of avian nourishments. Surwal Lake (22 km from the park)

It is a seasonal lake located between acres of agricultural fields, it is a good place to find different species of migratory birds in winters. From flamingos to painted storks, spoonbills, demoiselle greylag geese and cranes can be seen in large numbers during the months of November to March.  At the time of rising sun, you can spot the best sight of birds. In the months of April-May, the Surwal Lake dries.

Mansarovar Lake (20 km from the park)

The largest lake in Ranthambore, Mansarovar Lake lies at the southern edge of the park. Enjoy bird watching during the months of winter season and you can see Pintail ducks, Pelicans, Herons and Geese in extremely large numbers. Also, it’s a great place for enjoying walking.

Misradhara gate to the Ranthambore Fort

A common road to reach the fort as well as the park is a perfect place for birding where you can also spot peacocks, doves, flycatchers, parakeets, etc. along with a large group of common or Hanuman langur. This is the perfect place to see the Painted Spurfowl which is the main attraction for bird watchers.

Amlidih or Banas River (25 km from the park)

Amlidih is located on the banks of the Banas which is also a great spot for birding. Indian skimmers and river lapwings can be sighted in this place. Along with bird watching, you can also enjoy boating, village tour, camel cart riding, and candle light dinner in this place.

Helipad or Sherpur Village (8 km from the park)

For sighting chats, sand grouse, Indian courser, larks, and other birds can be found in the helipad. Also, some other species which migrate mainly in dry habitats can be sighted here.
